Wiggles & Giggles
Beginning a business in photography has been both a fun adventure and a very challenging pursuit of creativity! I first just want to say how much respect I have for those of you who have made a successful business doing this! Huge Kudos to you my friends! I’d love to know your number one tip if you’d like to share it!
With every shoot, I learn more lessons which is something that I love about this process!! I’m a hands-on learner, so downloading information as I go, as well as working out problems, is the best way for me to learn! In other words, I learn through messing up! Much of what I have been challenged with recently is problem-solving with lighting, such as: entering a new space with every shoot, time of day, indoor/outdoor. Even getting to the space early to check out an area or to set up lighting doesn’t prepare you for what is in store. Add in children, and well, you have to think on your feet while chasing your subject! It’s a blast for this lover of puzzles.
Last Fall I had the pleasure of doing family photos for a few friends of mine. Due to work schedules, two of these shoots were in the evening, and because of daylight savings time, the sun started its descent at 4 pm in the afternoon!! We were racing around to catch the last rays of light! Another family decided on an indoor, more comfy vibe, the challenge here was shadowy corners.
Look at these beautiful families!
The best thing about family shoots is following the kiddos around and getting them to pose for a picture. Their personalities are so huge that their tiny bodies can’t contain it all, and I LOVE the way it comes out in pictures. It’s unpredictable, genuine, wild, and joyous. Kids are REAL. They don’t hide behind a facade of fake smiles! If they are happy they smile! If they are sad they cry! And capturing that beauty is such a gift.
I want to say a special thank you to the Kimbroughs, the Matlocks, and the Kirkendalls for trusting me with these special moments!!
